Urban greening in Hangzhou City has experienced several stages, beginning from greening to beautifying, from pursuing open sight view to paying attention to ecological effect. Thanks to the large-scale tree planting and afforestation projects around West Lake, the construction of greenbelts surrounding West Lake and greenbelts on newly-built and refurbished roads, the formation of green land along rivers that run through downtown areas, greening in new residence quarters and improvement of the environment in factories and companies, the urban greening in Hangzhou City is full of vigor and vitality. Nowadays designers of urban greening projects pay attention not only to scenery but also to ecological effects. "City in Forest" has been put forward as a guiding principle for urban planning and construction. The urban greening projects in Hangzhou City are all designed to achieve rational arrangements between arbors and bushes, reasonable ratio of evergreen trees to deciduous trees, pleasing color combination of flowers all the year round and impressive large blocks of green lands, which can provide excellent space for citizens to walk, relax and do morning exercises and bring to the city a flavor of modernization and a sound microclimate.
